Sweet City Lip Dub Experience

As a part of this year's Cultural Capital of Canada activities, Calgary 2012 is producing a video to celebrate the authentic and inclusive spirit of Calgary. The video will utilize the popular “Lip Dub” format, and will feature the Calgary 2012 Cultural Capital theme song, Sweet City Woman by the band The Stampeders.

In keeping with the playful, spontaneous quality of the Lip Dub formula (a flashmob/music video hybrid) the finished product will involve large numbers of Calgarians and special celebrity guests, to demonstrate the unique, volunteer-driven character of Calgary. The Sweet City Lip Dub will focus on individuals and groups working together, en masse to contribute to a city-wide creative project. No experience is necessary. Everyone is encouraged to sign-up and get involved.

Everyone will come together to shoot the music video LIVE on September 29 at Olympic Plaza.

Schedule of Events

10 am - Lip Dub participant arrivals and check in at City Hall Atrium ( 800 Macleod TR SE)

All participants must fill out a waiver form upon check in. Then will be assigned a performance section and given directions to the appropriate location. The first 1000 participants to check in will receive a commemorative Lip Dub t-shirt.

10:30 am - 1 pm - Lip Dub performer section rehearsals on Olympic Plaza

Anyone arriving during this time will check in at the City Hall Atrium and be assigned a section and will have a role in the video.

Anyone arriving AFTER 12 pm will be working with Trixter Theatre on a choreographed component to the video and will be added to the final group shot of the Lip Dub.

2 pm - 3:30 pm - LIVE production of the Lip Dub

NOTES FOR THE DAY

Macleod Trail between 9th Ave and 6th Ave SE will be closed at 7 am until Midnight. It is recommended to take public transit on the day.

Food trucks will be onsite for food and refreshments.

This is a rain or shine event, so be prepared for the elements.

As it is Culture Days weekend, there are many activities taking place in the downtown core, so please take advantage of these events. EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts and the Glenbow Museum are both open.

What is a Lip Dub?

A lip dub is a type of video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing to make a music video. It is made by filming individuals or a group of people lip synching while listening to a song or any recorded audio then dubbing over it in post editing with the original audio of the song. There is often some form of mobile audio device used such as an MP3 player. Often they look like simple music videos, although many involve a lot of preparation and production. Lip dubs can be done in a single unedited shot that often travels through different rooms and situations within a building.
